I can’t believe that it is Sept 20. It totally snuck up on me. My little boy turns 1 in less than 3 weeks, which means it is almost party time! I have been planning everything for months, knowing full well that it would suddenly be here. The cake ideas have been thrown around with my sister-in-law (she’s good, like Ace of Cakes good!) decorations have been decided on and most have been made, loot for the loot bags has been collected, and the little guy hasn’t grown out of the shirt that I am hoping he will wear. As much as I have done, there is still lots to do, and I feel like I am running out of time. I need a quiet afternoon when I can make a pinata. I still need bags for the loot and candies for the pinata (thank fully his birthday is before Halloween!). I have to make the game for all his older cousins to play. I have a few dozen sugar cookies to bake the weekend before. And I will be helping with some of the cake stuff, since it is a very lengthy process. My head spins just thinking about it, and to think he won’t even remember any of this!
A first birthday is a big deal, so this party is going to be a big deal. Not all the parties I give my children are going to be this extravagant and over the top (and I’m sure, compared to most parties, this isn’t even going to be that over the top!). A few streamers and games and just hanging out with friends is what my children will be getting. They will be themed, interactive, creative, and always done on a budget. In our area, it seems that bigger is better. Parties aren’t hosted in your own home anymore, it is always some big event of going somewhere, and spending hundreds of dollars. This is not in our budget, and even if it was, I wouldn’t be doing it. I guess it’s because most families have double incomes, both parents work, giving them more money, and less time. Less time to plan the party, and less time to clean up after wards. This is one area where I am not concerned with “keeping up with the Jones’ “.
There will be tons of pictures to share and more details on just how frugal this party was. I can’t wait, for the party, I can wait for the little guy to grow up!
