DIY 2 Ingredient Facial Scrub

DIY 2 Ingredient Facial Scrub

Orange juice and baking soda.Yup, sounds weird. I am all for saving money (obviously) and love the idea of DIY beauty treatments. Avocado and honey and oatmeal and milk and egg and beer. Not all at once. But all those items are said to sooth skin, clear up skin, moisturize hair etc. I have never tried any of them, but have always been curious…

My husband and I are attending a wedding this weekend, and of course, my skin decides to break out a little right before! Nothing like trying to look elegant and glamorous while trying to hide a huge pimple or two! I, like most women, have my go to products, but they just don’t seem to cut it anymore. I did buy one of those vibrating face scrubber things, that pink one, that all the teenagers use, not embarrassing at all when you are 29 with two kids! It has been working great, but I needed something more, and as always, Pinterest led me to it: the Beauty Bets site and a very interesting facial scrub.

1 tablespoon real orange juice

1 tablespoon baking soda (add a little more until it is nice and thick)

Apply gently all over your face. Leave on for 20 minutes, and remove. It will tingle and itch a bit, and try not to talk because as it hardens it will crack and fall off if you move your facial muscles too much. I used a warm face cloth in a circular motion to remove it. Be very gentle! Baking soda is a harsh abrasive material, and can easily irritate sensitive skin. DO NOT SCRUB! I was super gentle and my face was still red and a little sore for about 45 minutes (don’t do this right before leaving the house!). Apply a good moisturizer and enjoy your soft skin.  The acid in the orange juice works to tone your skin, tighten pores and the Vitamin C brightens. The baking soda exfoliates and fights acne.

My pores are smaller, my skin is softer, and the swelling in my acne has gone down too! Fantastic facial that is basically free, as most people have the ingredients on hand, and it uses such a small amount of both! Simple, cheap, and effective? My kinda of facial 🙂
