Happy Saint Nicholas Day!

God, we pray that through the
intercessions of St. Nicholas
you will guide and protect our children.

Keep them safe from all harm
and help them grow to become
loving disciples of Jesus in your sight.

Give them strength to always mature
into deeper faith in you,
and to keep alive joy in your creation.

Through Jesus Christ Our Lord. Amen.

Today we celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas. We celebrate with colouring pages and crafts, and a few small religious gifts, and of course extras prayers. We also watched some Veggie Tales :)! I love taking this time with my children to remind them what Advent and the Christmas season is really about, and share in how Saint Nicholas gave gifts to the needy because he was so happy that Jesus gave his life for him.

  1. Sounds like a lovely day. When they get a wee bit older I think doing something like backpacks for The Refuge or something similar would make an awesome addition to the tradition as a way to also give back! B got a duplicate toy and he is giving it up to his school's collection for the Simcoe Settlement House for another little boy to have. :)
    • Great idea Kristy! We always talk with him about the charitable things we do, even at 3 he is starting to understand. Today we did take food and clothing to Saint Vincent de Pauls, and we will be clearing out and donating toys once he is a little older and can understand that more.
